Little Makalolo Camp is a small, traditional camp sitting pretty within a teak forest. Overlooking a busy waterhole, this charming Wilderness Safaris property is secluded and serene with exclusive access to a private concession situated within the immense and vibrant Hwange National Park.
Location
Little Makalolo Camp is situated on a private concession within the huge Hwange National Park, one of a few camps within the park boundaries. The 14,5000 square kilometres of Kalahari sandveld saltpans, grassland, acacia scrub and teak and mopane woodland houses a diversity of species with great herds of buffalo, elephant and over 100 species of mammal.
Rooms
Connected by raised walkways to the main area are six tented chalets. The light and airy interiors are tasteful and authentic with wooden and brass furnishings adorning the space. Concrete floors lie underfoot and double doors open out to shaded verandas where guests can enjoy views of the waterhole. En-suites are decorated in wildlife prints and offer indoor and outdoor showers and copper basins.
Communal Areas
The open-sided dining area has a large communal table for shared dining and coffee and tea is available throughout the day. The opulent lounge area offers plush sofas, chairs and a small library furnished with books, magazines and plenty of boardgames. Gather around the firepit for evening drinks or spend the afternoon lounging by the plunge pool.
Activities
Morning game drives begin early in the morning with a stop for mid-morning coffee and a return to camp in time for brunch. Evening game drives include sundowners in the bush and a spotlight exploration of nocturnal wildlife. Guided walks depart at sunrise and there are many hides in the area, including the ‘treehouse’ hide above the waterhole back at camp. To learn more of the local community, guests can visit the nearby Ngamo village to see the community projects underway.
