Ndali is a homely lodge forming part of a tea estate once belonging to Major Trevor Price. Run by Price’s grandchildren, the lodge retains its family atmosphere and sits peacefully on a hill between crater lakes and lush forest. Perfect for a rejuvenating and intimate Ugandan experience.
Location
A one hour drive to Kibale National Park, the lodge sits on the edge of Buyuruguru crater lakes in Western Uganda with views of the thickly forested mountains and blue slopes of the Ruwenzori mountains.
Rooms
Eight cottages speckle the cliff side of the property, all made with stone, wood and thatch and offering panoramic views of the lush surroundings. Reminiscent of quaint English cottages, each of the rooms are charmingly furnished with four-poster beds, cosy seating and large baths. An outdoor patio for a peaceful view of the landscape.
Communal Areas
In the homely main lodge, guests can dine by candlelight around communal tables or out on the veranda, top up their reading in the lodge’s abundant library and swim in the pool overlooking the verdant forest. Westward facing windows in the main lodge also mean an uninterrupted view of the Rwenzori mountains, nicknamed the ‘Mountains of the Moon’ perfect for an evening drink at the bar after a day out in the forest. The restful cliff side sauna is also perfect after a swim.
Activities
Guests can take Chimpanze treks in the national park, traverse the boarded walkways through the Bigode Wetlands Sanctuary or enjoy walks around the tea estate and the Ndali vanilla-processing plant. These walks offer interesting views along the way including crater rims, coffee terraces and oil drums full of brewing alcohol! The site is also perfect place for birdwatchers and guests can swim, kayak and glimpse five species of Kingfisher on the lake.

DRYER PERIOD
A brief drier interlude before the more intense long rains arrive in March. The altitude does, however, mean that this ‘dry season’ is a little unpredictable.
Its location so close to the equator means that Kibale National Park has fairly consistent temperatures throughout the year, while the high altitude (928 to 1,568m or 3,045 to 5,144ft) moderate these to a pleasant average maximum of 27°C/81°F through the year. Mornings can be surprisingly cool, so do pack a light fleece encase you need one.
Kabale has no distinct dry season, although June and July do tend to be the driest months of the year. There is also a slight lapse in rainfall in January and February.
Chimpanzee trekking is possible throughout the year but is just a little more enjoyable during the drier times of the year. The ground also tends to be a little less slippy, making the trekking that bit easier too.
