Set in an award-winning farmhouse, the Rissington Inn is a stylish and popular accommodation, promising a relaxed atmosphere, delicious food and a welcoming, easy-going ambience. With attentive staff and freedom at its core, this is an ideal place to unwind in an informal setting within easy reach of activities should adventure call.
Location
The inn sits on 10 hectares of land in the south of Hazyview in the Mpumalaga lowveld. Once a tobacco farm, the buildings and grounds of Rissington have been well renovated to create a delightful accommodation set amid gardens and indigenous veld. Although close to Hazyview, the inn creates a secluded atmosphere, positioned at the end of a long tree-lined driveway. It’s also perfectly placed to explore the Panorama Route and Kruger National Park.
Rooms
There are 20 rooms at the inn ranging from Superiors to Suites but all are spacious with their own entrances and private verandas. Interiors are homely and simple with warm wooden floors and furniture and splashes of colour. Larger rooms and suites offer hammocks or daybeds on the verandas and garden suites even have outdoor showers. Hillside suites boast large sitting rooms, two en-suite bathrooms and offer arguably the best views on the property.
Communal Areas
The main thatched farmhouse is bursting with character with great views down the Sabie River Valley. It compromises tall ceilings, wooden furniture and is decorated in a homely, simple fashion. There’s a lounge and library area with lots of comfortable sofas and much material to browse through. Expect fresh flowers and potted plants dotted throughout and interesting artwork adorning the walls. Enjoy newspapers and old maps at the well-stocked bar, dine on the shaded veranda overlooking the pool area, a perfect spot to watch the sunset.
Activities
The inn is just outside Hazyview and only ten minutes to the Phabeni Gate of Kruger National Park so although a peaceful setting, activities are within easy reach. Hikers will love the Fanie Botha Trail and a host of other forest and plantation routes while nature-lovers can enjoy the national park, Moholoholo Animal and Bird Rehabilitation Centre and Hoedspruit Cheetag Breeding Project. Guests can take fishing trips to Sabie River and Horseshoe Falls and for a culture trip, Shangana Cultural Village hosts festivals of song and dance.
