Nice to meet you
Narina Exelby is a roaming writer who grew up on a nature reserve in KwaZulu-Natal. She shares a name with a shy forest-dwelling bird, and her default setting has always been to seek out quiet spaces – which is one of the reasons she lives in a bamboo “treehouse” in Bali, four hours away from the crowds. Africa is very much in her blood, however, and Narina regularly travels and writes about the continent for a variety of international publications. For Narina the words of poet Gcina Mhlophe will always ring true: there is no “Africa bug” – it is the umbilical cord remembering.
