Philip Briggs has been exploring the highways, byways and backwaters of Africa since he first backpacked between Kenya and South Africa in 1986. In the 1990s, he wrote a series of pioneering Bradt travel guides to African destinations then practically uncharted by the travel publishing industry, among them Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Rwanda, all of which he regularly updates for new editions. Philip is also the author or co-author of several other guidebooks including the Eyewitness Guide to Kenya and Insight Guide to Madagascar. He usually still spends at least four months on the road every year, and spends the rest of his time battering away at a keyboard in the sleepy coastal village of Wilderness in South Africa’s Western Cape.
