Designed by David Edwards and architect Jean Marc Eynaurd, Le Prince Maurice is a harmonious accommodation where Feng Shui principles rule. Named after the pioneer of the spice trade, Prince Maurice Van Nassau, the hotel is warm and intimate with a beautiful spa and just short walk to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.
Location
Set amid lush tropical greenery, the hotel sits within 60 hectares of privately owned land close to a natural fish reserve. It occupies a remote and leafy peninsula with views of the mountains beyond and just moments from calm, lagoon waters, the Indian Ocean and palm-fringed white sand beaches.
Rooms
Staying true to its Feng Shui principles, all 89 rooms are positioned, designed and decorated to maximise the harmonious atmosphere. Housed in thatched rood structures, the rooms are sheathed in warm orange hues with parquet flooring and beds sitting high above the ground to improve the flow of Qi. Large balconies look out to the lagoon. Some rooms sit on stilts high above the mangroves and some have direct beach access. For an even more spacious stay, try the Princely Villa with its two pools, three sun terraces, a private beach and a personal butler.
Communal Areas
Guests can dine on seafood over the water at the floating Le Barchois. Here, sundowners and mountain views await across a lantern-lit pathway through the mangroves. Enjoy drinks at the poolside bars, Italian fare at the Beach Deck or classic Mauritian cuisine at L’Archipel Restaurant where tall concrete columns direct energy to the centre of the hall. The lagoon-like infinity pool is surrounded by huge cabanas to relax in and warm light throughout all of the spaces harmonises with the surrounding environment to create a tranquil atmosphere and picturesque evenings. Guests can also make use of the hotels wine cellar, which stocks over 25,000 bottles of wine.
Activities
Try paddle-boarding, kite-surfing or water-skiing in the lagoon, go scuba-diving at the PADI Centre and head out on glass-bottom boat rides or Catamaran cruises. For golfers, the ‘Legend of the Links’ courses are just a short drive away and the hotel itself has tennis courts and beach volleyball. For pampering, the U-Spa by Constance is housed in the tropical gardens with treatments by Sisley and celebrity podiatrist Brice Nicham.
