Designed to make the most of the incredible views of Fish River Canyon, Fish River Lodge is a modern, minimalist property and the only lodge to enjoy a location on the rim of the canyon. Surrounded by rugged beauty and a grove of quiver trees, this is an unbeatable spot to enjoy all the activities the canyon has to offer.
Location
The lodge is set within the privately owned Canyon Nature Park on the western edge of Fish River Canyon. The canyon is the second largest in the world and the lodge sits right on its rim for spectacular views. From this remote spot, guests can enjoy exclusive hiking on the western edge of the canyon and away from the more populated eastern edge.
Rooms
20 rooms sit on the crater rim with floor-to-ceiling glass windows offering incredible sunset views from huge, comfortable beds. The décor is modern with neutral tones and locally made furniture to add a traditional touch to the space. En-suites have both indoor and outdoor showers and a private veranda provides a magical spot to end the day with crater views.
Communal Areas
With a neutral colour palette and floor-to-ceiling windows, the stylish main area aims to emphasize its amazing views over the canyon and Fish River below. The bright and breezy lounge is surrounded by large windows, and a fire sits in the centre of the space for colder evenings. The veranda offers plenty of spots to lounge and a swimming pool to cool off in after a day of activity. Meals can be enjoyed around individual tables in the dining area under a sparkling chandelier.
Activities
Trek the 64km along the western edge of the canyon on a five night canyon hike, camping in different spots in the wild before returning to camp. Take full day drives into the canyon including a swim in the cooling rock pools where guests may spot Hartmann’s mountain zebra, ostrich, springbok and chacma baboon. Guests can also take sundowner drives to enjoy drinks as the sun sets over the landscape.

WET SEASON – ‘EMERALD SEASON’
A beautiful time to visit season of change as the landscape transforms into many shades of green. Great birding with migratory species present. Temperatures can however be extremely hot, with a midday high of around 35°C/95°F, though at times it can often rise well over 40°C/104°F.
Like the rest of Namibia, Fish River Canyon and Southern Namibia has very distinct wet and dry seasons; rain is common, usually in the form of sharp thunderstorms from November through to early May, the rest of the year clear skies dominate. This is one area which is great throughout the year, although more pleasant perhaps in the drier, cooler months of the year.
