Plan your journey

Location

The camp sits on the banks of the Obias River in the spectacular Hoanib Valley. This is one of Namibia’s most wild and remote environments housing an abundance of unique wildlife and a number of nomadic Himba settlements. The area enjoys a mountainous backdrop, vast sand dunes and endless plains where desert-adapted lion, leopard, hyena, rhino, elephant, giraffe and many more dwell.

In partnership with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation and the local Sesfontein Community, the camp not only aims to conserve its resident giraffe population but also to have as little an impact on the surrounding environment as possible and runs entirely on solar power.

Rooms

Six raised tents are constructed from timber, bamboo and 70% recycled materials. Each is decorated in a contemporary style with soft, neutral palettes and stylish interiors. Large beds are draped in locally-made fabrics, soft rugs cover wooden floors and wildlife artwork adorn the walls. Outdoor decks boast comfortable furniture to lounge on while marveling at the scenery and en-suites have the addition of an outdoor shower.

Communal Areas

There is a homely lounge area with sofas, armchairs and pouffes spread around coffee tables. The space also offers a chic bar and cosy dining area although most of the dining is done under the stars by the campfire or out on the deck. Most of the furniture here is made from locally sourced materials, create by local Rundu carpenters and Himba carvers.

Activities

Take game drives through the vast desert plains to track elephants, rhino, lion and giraffe. Guests can also request drives in Skeleton Coast National Park for more mountains, endless dunes and an abundance of wildlife. Head out on nature walks with knowledgeable local guides or spend time with the giraffe conservation team to learn more about the efforts to conserve giraffe populations in the area. Guests can also visit local Himba and Damara communities to learn about desert life.

WET SEASON

This is the peak of the wet season, yet days with rainfall are still very rare indeed.

Great birding with migratory species present.

Less foggy conditions.

Temperatures are pleasant, averaging 25°C/77°F midday, but can occasionally rise well above this. Night time lows average a comfortable 17°C/63°F.

The Skeleton Coast has a desert climate, with just the very occasional rain shower during the Namibian wet season, which runs from October through to April. The rest of the year rainfall is very unlikely. Its location between the cold Atlantic Ocean and the hot interior does however give rise to some very foggy conditions, especially through the winter/ dry season months. This is a part of Namibia which is great all year round, though we personally prefer the summer months for the warmer and less foggy conditions.
