Location

The camp is located in Liwonde National Park on the banks of the Shire River. Thanks to African Parks, a non-profit conservation organization, Liwonde is regenerating and remains an unspoiled and diverse park with tons of natural beauty to enjoy. The camp sits on the edge of a floodplain shaded by baobabs and fever trees.

Room

Four tented rooms are positioned on either side of the communal areas, shaded and hidden by trees and facing downstream. The spacious, air-conditioned interiors features light wooden floors, soft grey and white décor and open plan bedrooms and bathrooms. A table and armchairs looks out over the floodplains and a private deck offers more views of the river and its bathing hippos. Chic en-suites offer granite basins, bathtubs and even an outdoor shower.

Communal Areas

Two open-sided tents form the communal areas of Kuthengo. A bar and lounge tent offers soothing grey and white furnishing including sofas, coffee tables and a small wooden bar area with barstools. The dining tent has a long, communal table for shared meals and leads out to the pool.

Activities

Take day and night game drives in open-top vehicles or embark on walks led by knowledgeable guides who will get you close to the actions and share their passionate insights into the amazing Liwonde wildlife. Guests can also take boat cruises on the Shire River for bird and wildlife viewing from the water. Wake early for a sunrise motorboat trip along the river.

Like the majority of Southern Africa, Malawi has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. With small regional variations aside, the wet season starts between October and November and lasts through to April or May. The dry season lasts from April or May all the way through to October or November, with clear skies dominating. The occasional shower is still possible during this time, just unlikely. Although it is possible to visit Malawi throughout the year, we would recommend visiting during the dry season when clear skies and cooler temperatures dominate.
