Designed by British designer Kelly Hoppen, the chic Lux Belle Mare is a light and bright accommodation with the feel of a modern beach home. Set amid palm-dotted gardens and offering a number of restaurants and bars on-site, the Belle Mare is an exceedingly cool beachside escape.
Location
The hotel sits by the white sands of Belle Mare Beach on the east coast of the island. Sitting amid tropical gardens, the hotel is close to the village of Belle Mare and just 20 minutes from the Trou d’Eau Douce and Flacq market.
Rooms
There are 174 rooms all with contemporary interiors, white walls and light wooden furnishings. Beds are adorned with bright coloured throws and flanked by large wicked lampshades. Doors open out to patios facing the sea or gardens and en-suites have large bathtubs. For extra space, the honeymoon suites are the largest of the rooms and surround a thatched gazebo and koi pond.
Communal Areas
The communal space is decorated in fresh and soothing whites with unique additions such as a lobby scented with mint-tea, salvaged wood and a vintage Rolls Royce parked in the gardens. Although designed to be simple and soothing, the interiors are splashed with vivid colours and theatrical elements. Choose between 88 varieties of tea in the teahouse, fusion food from the resident yellow food truck, American fare in the smokehouse and cocktails on the beach at Beach Rouge The K-Bar serves craft beers and own-brand coffee for both morning and evening relaxation. A huge swimming pool sits just in front of the beach and ocean with poolside bars and plenty of loungers.
Activities
Apart from all the usual watersports available on the beach, guests can take part in the hotel’s unique ‘Wellbeing Safari’ which includes nature walks, yoga, meditation and laughter therapy. Canter along the beach on horseback, take Creole lessons in the rum shack by the pool, PhotoFanatic workshops to work on your photography and drone skills and cooking classes with experienced chefs. Bikes are available to explore the lush hillsides and for shopping, the busy Flacq Market is just 20 minutes away.
