Taking its name from a neighbouring grove of olive trees, Olive Grove Guesthouse is a pretty boutique hotel in the heart of Windhoek. Small in size with wonderful gardens and an elegant style, the property may be in the city but it offers plenty of tranquil spots to unwind in before or after a safari adventure.
Location
The guesthouse is in the Klein suburb of Windhoek. It is located on a hill just a short drive from the activity of the city centre. Nestled among hills with the Khomas Hochland Plateau to the west and the Auas Mountains to the east, Windhoek feels like a pretty European town. It’s a well-groomed city with leafy streets, curio shops on every corner and German castles mingling with Neobaroque cathedral spires.Â
Rooms
There are 11 spacious rooms, five standard rooms on the ground floor and five luxury rooms upstairs. Mosaics and lanterns adorn the space with occasional bronze, tin and wrought iron furnishings complementing the natural-coloured stone and cement floors, bathrooms and bed bases. Crisp white linen covers the beds and white kimonos in the bathrooms add a welcome touch of elegance. Luxury rooms are bigger than standard rooms and also offer balconies with tables and chairs under a large sail awning.
Communal Areas
The beautifully decorated main area is contemporary in décor and design with locally printed fabrics and lanterns to soften the space. The lounge offers comfortable sofas, a fireplace and computers for guest use. The open-plan kitchen gives the space a homely feel and guests can dine on the outside dining deck or indoors to watch chef’s cook delicious meals. The garden and pool area is a tranquil spot to lounge in and there’s also a wellness centre where massages can be booked.
Activities
Stroll down the tree-lined boulevards of Windhoek among German colonial architecture, explore the National Botanical Gardens in the suburbs or take a tour of the dynamic Katutura neighbourhood. There are plenty of museums to visit such as the National Museum of Namibia which details the country’s journey of independence. For a day trip out of town, visit the extraordinary landscapes of Daan Viljoen Game Park, Namibia’s smallest reserve

Namibia has an arid climate with very distinct wet and dry seasons. The wet season occurs from November through to early May, during this time, thunderstorms infrequently occur, the rest of the year is dry. Although the country can be visited throughout the year, it is generally at it's best during the peak of the dry season when day time temperatures are a little more pleasant. The dry season also improves the likelihood of good game view sightings, as wildlife concentrates itself around the few remaining water sources. There is also a lot to be said for the ‘emerald season’; a rich diversity of blooming flowers, beautiful green scenery and fantastic birding make for a wonderful and unique experience.
