Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge offers four-star, private luxury within Africa’s oldest proclaimed reserve. Part owned by the local Mpembeni community, the lodge is a contemporary and stylish space in the heart of the action with breathtaking views of the park.
Location
Sitting high on a ridge, the lodge overlooks the Hluhluwe game reserve within Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park. The park covers an area of 96,000 hectares compromising grassland, sub-tropical valleys and rivers. Its flora and fauna is very diverse and the park is renowned for Operation Rhino which successfully saved the white rhino from extinction.
Rooms
16 rooms overall range from two secluded honeymoon villas with private plunge pools, eight Luxury Bush Villas, four Safari Rooms and two Safari Family Suites. The Luxury Bush Villas have open-plan bedrooms with a large bed draped in mosquito netting, a lounge, fireplace, en suite bathroom and deck for wildlife viewing. Safari rooms are family-friendly with shower rooms opening out onto a large deck area.
Communal Areas
The lounge is an open-sided, bright and airy space with light wooden flooring, a fireplace and sofas which lead through to the dining room and bar. The space opens out to a large sun deck where guests can dine, relax on loungers overlooking the park or head down to the infinity pool for a swim.
Activities
Game drives take place twice a day in the vast reserve and guided bush walks inside the park take place in Big Five territory, lasting three to four hours with knowledgeable walking guides. Guests can also enjoy conservation walks in the gorge next to the lodge, enjoy a cultural visit with the Mpembeni community or explore the Centenary Capture Centre and Museum near Nyalazi Gate. For in-house indulgence, the Organic Spa offers treatments with views of the reserve.

SUMMER
A humid and hot time of the year, with days predominately over 30°C/86°F. This period of the year is also the wettest, though rainfall usually comes in the form of short afternoon thunderstorms. With ample water sources, wildlife does tend to be more dispersed during these months, vegetation is also a little thicker – so unfortunately not an ideal for period game viewing.
With its location along the Indian Ocean KwaZulu-Natal enjoys a humid subtropical climate, with hot humid summers and warm largely dry winters.

SPRING
Temperatures begin to rise once again, as do the chances of rain. As soon as the first rains arrive the landscape transforms, which can be a beautiful sight to witness. These rains do however disperse wildlife, decreasing the likelihood of good sightings. The first true rainfall can arrive at any period over these months but is obviously more likely by October.
