A calm and secluded retreat on the edge of a national park, Rwakobo Rock Lodge is an eco-friendly property offering incredible sunset views and pretty private cottages. Set in Ankole ranchlands close to the entrance of the park, Rwakobo offers an idyllic and peaceful location to complement the number of exciting activities on offer in the surrounding landscape.
Location
The lodge sits on an outcrop at the edge of Lake Mburo National Park in Ankole ranchlands. It’s just 1km to the Nshara Gate of the national park where day and night game drives are available. Views from the lodge are breathtaking with many animals, such as impala, zebra and warthog, gathering at the waterhole below the lodge. As the roads from the property pass through the Nshara Government Ranch, guests will see lots of Ankole cattle grazing alongside plains game.
Rooms
There are eight private thatched cottages, consciously following the natural lines of the surrounding landscape. Set around the hill to enhance the beautiful views, the rooms are rustic with comfortable wooden beds, solar lighting and en-suites. There are also five bedrooms available in the Hornbill House, each with en-suite bathrooms and private verandas.
Communal Areas
The thatched open-sided main area overlooks the expansive rocks and offers hammocks, sofas, a bar stocked with Ugandan beers and a dining area which opens out to a large deck. The swimming pool has perfect views across the valley and a shaded thatched area with more hammocks and tables. Enjoy a campfire each night while he sunsets and leaves behind a star-filled sky.
Activities
Take day and night drives in Lake Mburo National Park with plenty of picnic spots and viewpoints along the way. Combine drives with walking safaris to track game, stroll around the rocks or climb to the surrounding hilltops. Walks can be tailored to individual needs and last around 2 to 3 hours. The park also runs afternoon boat trips on Lake Mburo. In its efforts to conserve local tradition and culture, the lodge has partnered with a local Bahima family who guests can visit to learn of local life.
