Awarded: Bronze
Location
The 600-hectare estate lies at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains in George, the very start of the Garden Route. Although a hub for avid golfers, George itself is full of spectacular scenery and natural wonders. It’s located within the Cape Wildflower Floral Kingdom and with a Mediterranean type climate, has activities all year round.
Rooms
There are 18 suites separated into three categories. Homewood Suites are designed for the independent traveller and interiors have a classic and clean style. They are very spacious with a separate lounge, a private balcony and en-suite bathrooms. Oakland Suites are contemporary in style with grand bathrooms and walk-in dressing rooms. Photos of the Garden Route’s most magnificent features adorn the walls of every room. There is also a Master Bedroom at the hotel, decorated with bespoke furniture and chandeliers and featuring two bedrooms, an open-plan lounge and dining area and a spacious patio overlooking the gardens.
Communal Areas
The communal areas include the elegant Manor House lounge where afternoon tea is served and the Montagu Bar where a fireplace, antique books and a writing desk create a cosy atmosphere. Outside among the manicured gardens, the private swimming pool is surrounded by shaded loungers. Guests can also enjoy the spa and roman baths with perfect views of the Outeniqua Mountain range in the distance.
Activities
Guests don’t have to wander far to be entertained with Fancourt’s award-winning spa and Roman baths and three excellent golf courses within the estate. Golfers can enjoy The Links, ranked one of the top courses in the world with the Outeniqua Mountain range as a backdrop. Guests can also go hiking, biking and bird-watching in the surrounding area or venture into George for a number of activities. Pick strawberries and browse the fresh farm stalls at the Red Berry Farm, embark on wine and cheese tasting at the Dutch Cheese Farm and visit the Garden Route Botanical Gardens.

The Garden Route is situated between KwaZulu Natal and the Western Cape and its climate is a bit of a mixture of the two. Its coastal areas enjoy both a subtropical and Mediterranean climate while inland things get a bit hotter. The geographic location between the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean give the region rather mixed rainfall patterns, with no distinct dry period as found within the Western Cape. Rainfall amounts are however usually minimal with plenty of sunshine throughout the year!
