Originally a family home, The Peech is a small ‘eco-chic’ boutique hotel in the Johannesburg suburb of Melrose. Owned and run by Yorkshireman James Peech, the hotel is a pleasant change from the larger hotels of the area and offers a homely, charming atmosphere within walking distance to the activity of the city.
Location
The hotel is situated in the suburb of Melrose in Johannesburg. Just a stone’s throw from Melrose Arch and a short drive to Sandton’s bustling business district, The Peech is perfectly positioned to enjoy the bars, restaurants and attractions of the city and surrounding suburbs.
Rooms
There are 16 spacious rooms located in the main house or spread throughout the lush gardens, each decorated in a contemporary style with bold African tones. Interiors feature oak floors, king-size beds and colourful furnishings throughout. The modern, blue mosaic en-suites have bathtubs, rainforest showers and Molton Brown products. Garden Rooms have the addition of a balcony or patio facing the garden and the Suites are very spacious with the addition of a separate lounge area.
Communal Areas
The main areas of the hotel are contemporary in style and design with modern art adorning the walls and clean lines throughout. The Bistro forms the heart of the main area and overlooks the landscaped garden where a pool and loungers await. Guests can dine here or on the outdoor patio, lounge on leather sofas and enjoy post-dinner cocktails at the bar.
Activities
The hotel is just ten minutes away from the shops and attractions of Melrose Arch, Rosebank and the Sandton Business District. The surrounding suburbs are also a hub of culture and cuisine and well worth exploring. Learn of 20th-century Africa in the Apartheid Museum and Mandela Museum, visit the Soweto Township and city art galleries or head out to Gold Reef City with the kids, a 1880’s themed park. James and Ethel park sits just across the road from the Peech, and for something a little further afield, take a day trip to see the jacaranda-lined streets of Pretoria.

SUMMER
A beautiful time of year with plenty of sunshine and warm weather. The summer months are the wettest in the year, rainfall is however usually very short-lived arriving in the form of sharp afternoon thunderstorms.
Johannesburg is situated on the highveld plateau, and has a subtropical highland climate. The city enjoys a sunny climate, with the summer months (October to April) characterised by hot days followed by afternoon thundershowers and cool evenings, and the winter months (May to September) by dry, sunny days followed by cold nights.

AUTUMN
With more pleasant midday highs and generally clear conditions, this remains a fantastic time of year to visit South Africa. We would particularly recommend the Southern regions of South Africa (Western, Garden Route and Eastern Cape), KwaZulu-Natal, the Drakensburg Mountains. This period is also the perfect time to visit the Kalahari (the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park).
Of all the countries in Africa, South Africa is arguably the most climatically diverse; the beauty of this is that it is one destination which can be truly great throughout the year, you just need to know where to travel. With this in mind, we could suggest getting in touch to learn more.

WINTER
These are the driest months of the year, with barely any rainfall and blue skies dominating. Mornings are however cold, so worth packing warm clothes should you wish to take in any outdoor activities
