Okavango Delta & Moremi Game Reserve

The tapestry of islands and waterways that make up the Okavango Delta is up there in any top ten of the world’s top wildlife destinations. It is home both to resident wetland species, such as hippos and red lechwe, and prolific seasonal big game, including elephant and buffalo. Predators are legion, while special attractions include sitatunga and Pel’s fishing owl. The landscape changes with the floods from year to year. At its heart lies Moremi Game Reserve, where much of the game concentrates. Abutting this public reserve, a number of private concessions offer exclusive fly-in safaris, while, to the west, the Panhandle region is known for its fishing and birding.

Linyanti, Kwando & Selinda

The Linyanti region lies in northern Botswana, between the Okavango Delta and Namibia’s Caprivi strip. This wild region comprises a tapestry of river, swamp and mopane woodland, fed by the Kwando and Linyanti rivers. It shares its basic ecology with the Okavango and Chobe, which it borders to the south and east respectively. Wildlife includes large herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra, plus numerous predators, which move freely across the region in response to the seasonal rains. The area falls into three privately managed concessions: the Linyanti, Kwando and Selinda. Each has its own particular terrain and wildlife specialities, but all offer outstanding safaris from some of Africa’s most exclusive private lodges.

Mana Pools National Park

Mana Pools National Park lies on the southern shore of the lower Zambezi valley, in the northeast of Zimbabwe, and protects some 2,500 square kilometres of floodplain and bush sandwiched between the river and escarpment. It is one of southern Africa’s wildest and most scenic parks, known for the large game herds and many predators that congregate along the river front in the dry season, wandering at will through the unfenced camps. It also offers canoeing along one of Africa’s most beautiful stretches of river, and is celebrated continent-wide for its walking safaris. Expect alarmingly close encounters with big game but, equally, blissful serenity, where days can be whiled away beside the river enjoying the scenery and birdlife.
