Location
The camp holds a wonderful riverine location overlooking the floodplains of the Zambezi River and set within a private concession on the boundary of Mana Pools National Park. With a backdrop of the Rift Valley Escarpment and large herds of buffalo, elephant and predator populations, the vast surrounding plains are teeming with wildlife and breathtaking views. Due to its location on a private concession, guests have exclusive access to areas of the Sapi River and Chikwenya island.
Rooms
Seven tents sit low on wooden decks, leading to the main area via pine walkways. The breezy interiors have four-poster beds and a lounge area with sofas leading to the open-plan en-suites with tubs and indoor and outdoor showers. With sustainability at its heart, Chikwenya has no air conditioning, heating, wifi or TV’s yet the mesh doors provide a perfect breeze during the day and entertainment comes in the form of stunning wildlife views.
Communal Areas
The communal areas are decorated in a minimal design with a fresh and soothing ambience. The comfortable lounge boasts mahogany furnishing, sisal rugs and wicker chairs and lampshades. Guests can lounge and dine in both the indoor and outdoor seating areas overlooking the sprawling plains and a small swimming pool surrounded by loungers provides perfect sunset viewing.
Activities
Guests can take walking safaris and game drives within the camp’s private concession for an exclusive experience of the wildlife and surrounding area. Explore the open plains along the river where plenty of lions, leopards, elephant and buffalo roam free. The camp also offers night drives combined with remote sundowner drinks and canoe safaris along the Zambezi. For further exploration of the waters, motorboat safaris take guests further than canoe trips on a pontoon boat.
