MAIA Luxury Resort & Spa can be found near Anse Louis, a quiet stretch of beach on the scenic southwest Mahé coast, a 30-minute drive from the airport. The sea can be rough here in windy conditions, but the spectacular sunsets more than make up for this! The resort lies within in a thirty-acre plot of fragrant tropical gardens, providing each of its villas with ample privacy and a sense of being cocooned within nature.
Rooms
Each of the resort’s 30 villas comes with its own private terrace and infinity pool, so guests needn’t ever feel crowded or overlooked. The beach is directly accessible from 11 of the villas, while the other 19 are secluded in the hillside and offer panoramic views across the bay.
The villas are rustic teak-and-stone constructions in characteristic Balinese style, with an outdoor ‘floating’ pavilion bathtub perfect for luxurious scented baths. A second thatched gazebo houses a plush day bed and a bar, where your own personal butler can serve you sundowner drinks and dinner.
Communal Areas
The central communal areas, including the main reception-lounge, restaurant, and black lava pool, are smaller than in comparable resorts. The spa, however, is the star attraction. Its three open-sided pavilions fronted with palm trees are snugly secluded in the tropical forest, and offer range of massage treatments as well as other relaxation and fitness services.
Dining options at MAIA are flexible, depending on whether you feel like dining in the privacy of your own terrace, on the beach, in the gardens beside the pool, or at the resort’s Tec-Tec restaurant. A wide range of cuisines is on offer, from Mediterranean to Creole, with a good standard of food and an impressive wine list. Tutored wine tastings with the sommelier are available upon request.
Activities
The laid-back atmosphere at MAIA is balanced with its good range of activities, which include kayaking, paddle-boarding, snorkelling and scuba-diving, as well as use of the resort’s fitness centre. In addition to its massage treatments, the spa offers complimentary yoga and qi gong sessions designed to refine posture, breathing and meditation techniques.
Although MAIA is best suited for couples, the resort caters for families with its ‘child butler’ service, offering supervised child-friendly activities, games and daytrips.
