Set within pretty gardens on the banks of a river, Old Traders Lodge is a privately owned lodge with a classic safari aesthetic. With its inviting atmosphere and elevated decks looking over a busy waterhole, the lodge is wonderfully situated within the pristine wilderness of a private reserve and includes a huge range of specialized activities to suit every guest.
Location
The lodge is situated within Erindi Private Game Reserve in the Otjiwarongo district. The reserve compromises 710km² of woodlands, savannah and rivers with many activity options at the lodge to explore. While the reserve conserves a good population of leopard and cheetah, there are also lion, rhino, elephant, wildebeest, hippos and many more, including hundred of bird species.
The lodge has its own airstrip so guests can fly in rather than take the 179km drive from Windhoek.
Rooms
Most of the 45 suites are set along the riverbank with views of the waterhole. Standard Suites are small yet comfortable with double or twin beds, a small lounge area, satellite television and en-suite bathrooms. Luxury Suites are more spacious with a larger lounge area and a private patio. Superior Suites boast small private libraries and complimentary sherry while VIP Suites have the addition of a deck with a splash pool, a cosy fireplace and an outdoor shower. The Livingstone Suite is the most luxurious of all with tall beamed ceiling, dark wooden furnishings and leather and animal print sofas. Interiors include a kitchenette, wraparound glass doors and deck, Persian carpets throughout the open-plan living area and a private deck with splash pool.
Communal Areas
The communal space is built in a classic timber, stone and thatch structure close to the river. The restaurant sits at the heart with dark wooden furnishings and chandeliers suspended from the ceiling. Artwork and artefacts adorn the walls and the space flows out to a terrace where guests can lounge and dine with views of the water. The swimming pool provides a welcome spot to cool off between trips into the reserve.
Activities
The range of activities at the lodge are extensive and safari drives come under eight categories with an option for everyone – Guided game drives, private game drives, guided open truck game drives, summer night game drives, under 6’s game drives, leopard project drive and self drive routes. Guests can also keep their feet on the ground with guided bush walks, San village trips, Bushman art walks, cheetah walks and more.
