Location

The lodge is located in the NamibRand Nature Reserve, a 30-minute drive from Sesriem. The NamibRand is the largest private reserve in southern Africa with 180,000 hectares of desert wilderness.  Surrounded by dunes and rugged mountains, this spectacularly located reserve in the Namib Desert is an international dark sky reserve meaning there’s little to no air pollution interrupting the night sky and its display of stars.

Rooms

The ten modern suites are split across two levels, decorated in warm, neutral tones and constructed from stone and glass. Photographs of the local landscape adorn the walls and interior furnishings such as driftwood lamps, decorative shells and shaped wood bring the landscape tastefully inside. There are comfortable lounge areas with fireplaces and sliding glass doors which open out to a private terrace. You will also find paints, paintbrushes, pastels, paper and charcoal sticks in the rooms for if creativity strikes. The glass-paneled en suites have both indoor and outdoor showers. Guests will also enjoy the complimentary sparkling wine on arrival.

Communal Areas

The bar and lounge provide perfect views across the desert and guests can dine in the dining room adjacent or in the wine cellar for a more private evening. Upstairs, there’s another lounge and terrace with a bar and small library. The swimming pool provides excellent views of the waterhole and distant mountains while keen astronomers will love the lodge’s own observatory. Discover the constellations from computer-controlled telescopes and talk to the resident astronomer about the night sky.

Activities

Head out on excursions to Sossusvlei to explore the iconic dunes or embark on scenic drives and guided nature walks through the reserve. Guests can also walk to a Bushman cave to discover the rock art hidden inside. For a rush of adrenalin, ride quadbikes over the local dunes. A season of change as the landscape transforms into a green flowering ‘desert’, a beautiful time to visit. Great birding with migratory species present.

Temperatures are pleasant, averaging 28°C/82°F midday, but can occasionally rise well above this. Night time lows average a comfortable 17°C/63°F.

The wet season occurs from November through to early May, during this time, thunderstorms infrequently occur, the rest of the year is dry. Although the country can be visited throughout the year, it is generally at it's best during the peak of the dry season when day time temperatures are a little more pleasant. . Having said this there is a lot to be said for the ‘emerald season’; a rich diversity of blooming flowers, beautiful green scenery and fantastic birding make for a wonderful and unique experience.
