A serene river lodge on the grassy banks of the Zambezi, Chundukwa River Lodge is an intimate accommodation with a rural feel yet makes the perfect base for exploring the game-rich area, Livingstone Town and the natural wonders of Victoria Falls.
Location
The lodge sits on the banks of the Zambezi River in the midst of a lush forest. It’s just 25km upstream from Victoria Falls, the world’s largest cascade and a top hub for safari trips throughout the region. The lodge is also close to the town of Livingstone and is accessed via Livingstone Airport.
Rooms
There are five thatched chalets built on stilts and one spacious cottage at the lode, all offering perfect views of the river. Each is uniquely named after the local birdlife and are connected to the main area by shaded tracks leading through the forest. The space is open-fronted, offering neutral tones spiced up by colourful fabrics. There are queen or king-size beds, mosquito netting, cosy electric blankets for the winter months and complimentary organic products in the en-suite bathrooms. Chundu Cottage boasts three bedrooms, a private veranda and swimming pool and its own team of staff to prepare meals.
Communal Areas
The open-sided communal space blends into the natural surroundings, offering gorgeous views of the river. Relax around coffee tables in the lounge area, full of sofas and colorful cushions. The smart dining area flows out on to a deck equipped with a rock plunge pool, perfect for afternoon wildlife viewing while cooling off.
Activities
Chundukwa’s proximity to Victoria Falls means there are a wealth of activities on offer, including fishing, canoeing, white water rafting and gorge swimming. Take game drives to the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park close by or motorboat safaris on the river. The lodge has its own stables so saddle up and take to the bush on one of 33 horses on a range of trails running along the Zambezi or through the Kalahari sandvelt. For some cultural immersion, visit the curio markets at Mukay Village or the museums in Livingstone Town.
