Toka Leya is an upmarket camp run by Wilderness Safaris, offering a scenic riverside location and a safari-chic atmosphere. Location
Just seven miles upstream from Victoria Falls, the camp sits on raised decks overlooking the Zambezi River. Within a riverine forest in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, the area has large populations of game which are known to wander through the camp.
Rooms
12 large tents are raised on wooden stilts above wildlife that grazes below. Large Persian rugs cover the wooden floors and four-poster beds are draped in mosquito nets. A spacious open-plan sitting area lies at the front of the space with leather chairs and a writing desk, and modern sliding doors open to a viewing deck with beautiful river views and a sunken seating area boasting loungers and wicker armchairs. Screened en-suite bathrooms have twin basins and both indoor and outdoor showers.
Communal Areas
The tented communal area, built under a canopy of trees, houses an open-sided lounge and dining room decorated in muted, earthy tones making for a natural space. The bar and decked infinity pool overlook the Zambezi River and some small rapids making for a tranquil spot to end the day. Meals are served overlooking the river in the main dining room or by the campfire on the lodge’s sandy beach. Afternoon tea is served on the sundeck closer to the river, and the spa and gym sit right at the water’s edge.
Activities
Included in the price are two activities a day, including a guided tour of Victoria Falls, a tour of Livingstone and vehicle and motorboat safaris. Take river cruises on the camp’s own boats, game drives into the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park or visit nearby villages and local shops. Activities at the falls can be arranged such as white-water rafting, microlight flights and bungee jumping.
