Kulala Desert Loge is a welcoming lodge surrounded by spectacular desert and sweeping views. Constructed in a traditional Africans style, the lodge blends seamlessly into the dramatic landscape and is the closest lodge to the iconic dunes at Sossusvlei, as well as boasting a private entrance into the national park.

Location
Situated on the private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, the lodge offers incredible views over the Namib Dand Sea and toward the Namib-Naukluft Mountains. Apart from the rolling sand dunes and 37,000 hectares of wilderness, a defining draw of the spectacular reserve is that it has a private entrance into the Namib-Naukluft National Park. There’s not much big game in the area so activities here tend to revolve around the landscape.
Rooms
23 chalets are raised from the ground and have spacious, cool interiors. Each chalet has twin or double beds with wooden headboards behind which a writing desk and luggage rack sit. A stepladder leads to private roof terrace above the en-suite bathroom where guests can sleep under the stars or enjoy the surrounding desert plains from directors’ chairs. A larger Family Room offers two bedrooms with en-suites and a large wooden deck.
Communal Areas
The central area sits under two peaked thatched roofs. The bar and lounge area are warm and inviting, decorated in shades of red, burnt orange and brown and boasting a cosy fireplace. Candlelit dinners are served outside on the veranda and there’s a large swimming pool with loungers and shady spots to escape the midday desert sun.
Activities
Game drives through the Kulala Desert are the most popular activity at the lodge. Visit the Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei and Sesriem Canyon or drive ten minutes to the reserves private entrance into Naukluft National Park. Take guided and unguided walking trails through the desert, sundowner drives for drinks amid the dunes and morning air-balloon flights with a leisurely champagne breakfast.
