With spectacular views across the mountains and Namibian plains, Okonjima Bush Camp is an intimate camp in the wild Namibian bush. Located 15 miles down gravel roads through herds of impala and kudu, it’s certainly remote and provides luxury and earthy space from which to enjoy the wilderness. It’s also home to the AfriCat Foundation, allowing for unique opportunities to get close to resident leopards and even participate in tracking them.

Location
Located within the 2,000 hectare Okonjima Private Game Reserve, the camp sits between the Omboroko Mountains. Populated with 36 leopards and six rescued cheetahs, the camp is home to the AfriCat Foundation. The foundation works with and educates local farmers in order to conserve Namibia’s leopard population. Guests will have the opportunity to see researcher at work and participate in tracking them on foot. It also sits just 2.5km from sister camp, Okonjima Plains Camp.
Rooms
There are nine suites and a two-bedroom Bush Suite at Okonjima Bush Camp. Spread a good distance apart from one another, each thatched suite is circular in shape providing gently curved walls and tented fronts that open up to views of the Omboroko Mountains and Waterberg Plateau Park. Interiors are decorated in earthy ochre tones and offer two queen-size beds, leather sofas and a sala with space to sit and enjoy a morning coffee. The two-bedroom suite overlooks the waterhole and offers two en-suite bathrooms with bathtubs and bush showers, perfect for families or groups.
Communal Areas
The central area at Okonjima Bush Camp is a ‘camelthorn’ shaped space which also overlooks the waterhole and is kept cosy with kelim rugs, sofas and four crackling fireplaces to relax by after a day exploring the park. Outside, there is another firepit to enjoy an evening drink around or dinner cooked on the outdoor grill.
Activities
Guests can join researchers from the AfriCat Foundation to radio-track cheetah on foot or head off into the night on safari drives to track leopard. Take day time game drives through the reserve for even more wildlife encounters and photo opportunities and spot ancient artwork on interpretive walks. Embark along the Bushman Trail and experience a day in the life of a San Bushman by learning how to survive in the wilderness.
