Location
Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp moves throughout the year between three locations as it tracks the region’s herds of wildebeest. From June to mid-July, it lies in the Central Serengeti; then in the North until November, and finally in the South between December and March.
Rooms
Kichakani does not disappoint in terms of luxury. Rooms are comfortable and stylishly furnished in classic campaign style, with muted grey and brown tones. Each has a canopied double bed, private veranda and en-suite bathroom.
With ten tents available, Kichakani Camp is rather large for a mobile camp, and therefore slightly less intimate than its four- or six-tent counterparts. If it is the charm and authenticity of more safari-focused camps that attracts you rather than pure comfort and luxury, we would recommend a more purist property such as Alex Walker’s Serian Camp or Nomad’s Serengeti Camp.
Communal Areas
A large canopied central tent houses a stylish lounge and dining area, and the tent’s open sides allow the dramatic Serengeti Plains to form the background to your evening meals.
Activities
Game drives are the primary source of activity at Kichakani, particularly during the Great Migration, when thousands of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle descend across the Serengeti Plains. A huge range of birdlife and other wildlife (from lions and giraffes to hyenas) can also be tracked here. Fire-side sundowners with cocktails and snacks are offered by the camp, and are a popular way to wind down after an eventful safari experience.
