Location
The hotel is in the coastal town of Hermanus, a must-see spot for whale watching on South Africa’s Western Cape. It sits between the Cape Fold Mountains and the Hermanus lagoon. Green lawns lead from the hotel down to the water and the cliff path, which is known to be a great spot for land-based whale watching, is just ten minutes away.
Rooms
There are six rooms, each individually designed and contemporary in style. Interiors are huge with lounges and kitchenettes, underfloor heating to warm chilly feet and writing desks where fresh flowers are displayed. Rooms in the main house have perfect lagoon views and balconies, and cottage suites look to the mountains behind. En-suites have both tubs and showers.
Communal Areas
The communal space of the hotel is divided up into smaller womb-like spaces which give the large house a cosy, warm feel. The central lounge and dining area has views of the mountains and lakes on either side, fireplaces, large sofas and golden lighting. Take tea on the veranda, dinner by candlelight on the beach and breakfast by either of the two pools – one facing the mountains and one the lagoon.
Activities
When not kayaking or swimming in the lagoon, visit the charming nearby town of Hermanus with its art galleries, hiking trails and vineyards. The hotel also has table tennis, tennis courts and a small putting green. Kids will enjoy the tree-house, jungle gym and games room. For those seeking thrills, Hermanus is just 30 minutes from Gansbaai where guests can go shark-diving.

SUMMER
Ideal weather with mainly clear skies, very little rainfall and little wind. Midday temperatures will generally reach highs of around 25°C/77°F, occasionally going over 32°C/90°F. Nights are warm but comfortable.
As with the rest of the Western Cape, the Overberg can be best described as having a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild and wet winters. Ideally, we would recommend visiting in the Spring, Summer or Autumn when the weather is at it’s best within the area. Winter weather is cooler, wetter and often much windier; there are however still a huge number of activities possible and accommodation prices are more competitive.
