Leeu Estates offers a slice of tranquillity within walking distance to the vibrant town of Franschhoek. Surrounded by vineyards and mountains and housed within the 19th century Cape Dutch Manor House, the property’s architecture promotes well-being and relaxation within easy reach of the activity of South Africa’s Cape Winelands.
Location
The estates sit just outside the town of Franschhoek within 68 hectares of grounds. Sitting on the slopes of the Dassenberg, the property offers gorgeous views across the estate and river. The activity of Franschhoek is just a 15-minute walk away and the estate also offers a complimentary shuttle ride. Franschhoek is full of wineries and retains a sense of its French history through plenty of Cape Dutch architecture and the Huguenot Monument.
Rooms
The 17 individually decorated rooms are separated into Classic, Deluxe, Studio Rooms, Executive Suites and Cottages. Every option boasts elegant interiors with sisal carpets underfoot and neutral tones throughout. Classic Rooms offer views of the spectacular mountain backdrop or grounds of the estate. Studio Rooms have private terraces and the spacious cottages have the addition of a private garden to relax in.
Communal Areas
With gardens designed by local landscape artist Franchesca Watson and the owner’s art collection spread through the property, both indoor and outdoor space is impressive. Inside the main building, guests will find the inviting reading room full of sofas, armchairs and a fireplace for cooler evenings. Enjoy meals in the dining room or on the terrace with wonderful views across the estate. Guests can also make use of the gym, wellness spa and 15-metre swimming pool.
Activities
The estate itself offers a range of activities such as a visit to its wine-tasting studio for complimentary samples of the Leeu Family wines, a tour of the vegetable garden and a number of nature trails to walk or cycle through. Stroll to the restaurants, boutiques and museum of Franschhoek or head a little further afield to discover the best of the Winelands on tours and safaris through nearby vineyards.

With a flora and fauna as biodiverse as the Western Cape it is no surprise that spring can be spectacular period to visit. Temperatures remain fairly cool, with a maximum average high of around 19°C/67°F, though the number of clear calm days is almost as high as the summer.

SUMMER / WET SEASON
This is the perfect time to visit the Southern part of South Africa (Western, Garden Route and Eastern Cape), with clear skies and warm weather dominating. It is also a good time to visit KwaZulu-Natal and the Drakensburg Mountains.
These months mark the wet season throughout the north of the country, where you can expect high temperatures and thunderstorms. So not ideal for safaris within these regions.
