Welgelegen is a glamorous yet understated property just a short stroll away from the buzz of Cape Town’s Kloof Street. With a number of plush spaces to relax in, boudoir-style bedrooms and mountain views, Welgelegen makes for a well-located and homely base to explore the best of Cape Town.
Location
Welgelegen is situated on a pretty street in one of Cape Town’s oldest suburbs, Oranjezicht. It sits conveniently within walking distance to the bars, restaurants and shops of Kloof Street and the city centre, and a ten- minute drive to the Waterfront or Camps Bay.
Rooms
Each of the 14 rooms has it’s own unique character and interiors are reminiscent of an English country house with tall ceilings, nature-inspired art lining the walls, elegant furnishings, bookcases and floral textiles. Floor-to-ceiling curtains cover the windows (some offering mountain views) and there are soft carpets underfoot. En-suites have bathtubs and showers.
Communal Areas
The Welgelegen is made up of two Victorian houses, each providing homely spaces to lounge and dine in. The lounges have colourful yet soft tones throughout to create a peaceful atmosphere with sofas, fireplaces, warm lighting and exposed wooden floorboards. Only breakfast is served in the hotel but guests can order food through Mr Delivery and be set up in the dining room with everything they need. A central courtyard makes for a welcoming spot to enjoy an evening drink, and loungers are positioned around the small pool where an honesty bar is set up.
Activities
Other than making the most of the entertainment on Kloof Street, take a short stroll to the Table Mountain Nature Reserve and cable car, marvel at the UNESCO-protected Cape Floral Region or take a tour of the unmissable Robben Island. Guests can also go mountain biking, take guided hikes or head to the water for sailing, kayaking and surfing.
