The hotel sits among impressive on Nettleton Road, a quiet residential street in the suburb of Clifton. Nicknamed ‘The Castle, the property was designed as a private home and still operates as one with the owner quietly occupying private quarters within the vast building. It sits high above the Clifton beaches with sweeping views of the ocean and Twelve Apostles. It’s also just 15 minutes to the city centre.
Rooms
Six rooms are spread across three floors, five of which offer superb sea views and balconies. Each is unique in design and character, offering a theme which run throughout the space. For instance, The Queen Room is decorated with paintings of various queens and the King Room is full of regency-style furniture, a king-sized bed and French linen. En-suites have showers, tubs and Africology toiletries.
Communal Areas
Inside, guests will find the L-shaped lounge and dining area and there are plenty of outdoor spaces to relax in such as the shaded patio, pergoda or many sun loungers spread across the extensive lawns. As the large space houses only a small number of guests, it’s easy to find peace in the many cosy lounges and seating areas, all of which are adorned with the owner, Hugo’s unique art collection. There’s also a shaded swimming pool within the gardens and two grand pianos to try your hands at.
Activities
Climb or take a cable car to the top of Table Mountain for incredible views from the top. Take a 15-minute drive to the famous Victoria and Alfred waterfront to explore the craft markets, restaurants and street entertainment or walk around the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Guests can also enjoy township tours and boat trips to Robben Island. For something a little further afield, head to the Winelands or Cape Point to visit the penguins of Boulders Beach.
