Location
Kirkmans Kamp is located in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, enjoying an unfenced border with the 10.5000 hectare Kruger National Park. The reserve is home to all Big Five and the camp itself sits high on a ridge overlooking the Sand River. With a range of habitats from sprawling savannah to woodland and seasonal rivers, the unspoiled reserve is home to a range of wildlife and is famous for its leopard sightings.
Rooms
There are 12 cottages spread across the lawns and decorated with a touch of nostalgia. Interiors have neutral colour palettes, antique furniture, historical artefacts and rustic bedsteads. Despite its old-fashioned atmosphere, modern luxuries are in abundance to create a perfectly comfortable safari experience. Private verandas have views of the surrounding bushveld and en-suites boast clawfoot bathtubs and stand-alone showers.
Communal Areas
The main area of the camp is a spacious yet cosy space with antique furniture, clean lines and historical mementoes spread throughout. French doors in the open-plan lounge and bar area open out to the rolling green lawns where warthogs roam. Meals are served in the elegant dining room, al fresco on the wraparound veranda or by lantern light in the boma. Indulge in some quiet time in front of the fireplace in the library and while away some hours by the rim-flow pool with views of the Sand River valley.
Activities
Guests can take morning, afternoon and evening game drive within the reserve in search of the elusive leopard plus all Big Five. Take bush walks with guides to explore the savannah and Sand River for a more sensory experience of the wilderness. Learn how to track, taste wild herbs and see the smaller game up close.
