An intimate, family-run camp, Notten’s Bush Camp is one of the original private game lodges in South Africa. A charming accommodation with a laidback atmosphere and eco-friendly design ethos, Notten’s is a rustic and magical retreat, offering excellent hospitality and game viewing.
Location
The camp is located in the southern Sabi Sand Game Reserve along the banks of the River Sabi. Boasting 65,000 hectares of woodlands, savannah and both the Sabi and Sand rivers, the reserve is one of Kruger’s most exclusive and is home to all Big Five. It also has an unfenced border with the national park so animals tend to move freely between the two.
Rooms
Nine suites are reached from the communal area via lantern-lit pathways through the trees. They offer double or twin beds, cosy paraffin lanterns, a writing desk, tea-and-coffee station and a separate lounge area. Wooden framed doors lead out to private decks with relaxing seating and dining furniture for dinner with a view. The en suite bathrooms offer bathtubs and an outdoor shower.
Communal Areas
The main lodge is a thatched, open-plan building with an inviting lounge area featuring leather seating around coffee tables, cowhide rugs and a cabinet full of books. Black and white photographs cover the walls with the addition of some interesting art such as antelope sculptures and a gun mounted above the warming fireplace. The area flows out to a large deck overlooking the wilderness and waterhole. The dining room is chic and offers both communal seating and individual tables where high tea is also served in the afternoons. The pool and adjoining pavilion is a prime spot for relaxing between activities.
Activities
With its high density of wildlife, morning or afternoon game drives in the Sabi Sand Reserve are a rewarding and exclusive experience with a good chance of seeing all Big Five. Guests can also take unique walking and photographic safaris with highly experienced rangers to discover the magical region. The camp also has a spa for a tranquil afternoon post-safari.
