Named after the Varty family who founded the private reserve it sits on, Londolozi Varty Camp is the oldest and largest camp on the Londolozi Reserve in Sabi Sands. Each chalet boasts private plunge pools, a pretty lantern-filled deck overlooks the river and the wildlife-filled activities are bespoke to each group of guests.

Location

The camp is one of just five located within the private Londolozi Reserve. It’s the oldest camp on the 16,000 hectare reserve where all Big Five are in residence, as well as cheetah, hyena, giraffe, zebra and rare wild dog. Sitting on the banks of the Sand River in the Sabi Sand Reserve, the camp benefits from being at the edge of the abundant and unfenced Kruger National Park so wildlife roams freely through the surrounding landscape.

Rooms

There are eight chalets and two super chalets at Londolozi Varty Camp, each overlooking the river and housed within a timber and thatch structure. The en-suite rooms are furnished with dark wooden and leather furniture and offer king-size beds with mosquito netting. Private decks boast private plunge pools and super chalets have the added luxury of outdoor showers.

Communal Areas

The communal area at camp is raised on stilts to offer incredible views over the Sand River. Dark leather sofas, zebra-print pouffes and coffee tables fill the lounge with a fireplace to warm the space during the evenings. Artefacts and black and white photographs line the walls to add to the safari atmosphere, and guests can dine in the chic dining room or out on the deck. Take a dip in the swimming pool after a day of exploring or head to the gym and Healing House for rejuvenation.

Activities

Take game drives or photographic safaris through the reserve to discover all Big Five animals as well as a number of other predators and herbivores. Learn of the landscape’s plants, insects and birds on guided safari walks, head into local villages to visit the community or make a trip to Founders Camp nearby for yoga classes. Young explorers will enjoy Cub’s Den where nature walks, birdwatching and even African dance lessons are on offer.
